IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Written Prescriptions & Ordering Medication
We want to make managing your pet’s treatment as straightforward and flexible as possible. You are very welcome to purchase your pet’s medication directly from us, but we are also happy to provide written prescriptions if you prefer to obtain medicines from another veterinary surgeon or a registered pharmacy.
Written prescriptions can offer more choice, but they also come with certain responsibilities and legal requirements. The information below explains how the process works and what to expect.
Before We Can Prescribe Medication
To legally prescribe prescription-only medicines (POM-V), a veterinary surgeon must have recently examined your pet. This ensures that the treatment is appropriate, safe, and based on an up-to-date clinical assessment.
Please note:
Written prescriptions may not be suitable for hospitalised pets or situations where urgent or immediate treatment is required.
In these cases, medication will need to be dispensed directly by the attending vet to avoid delays in treatment.
Repeat Medication Checks
For pets on long-term or ongoing medication, regular monitoring is essential for their health and safety. Most pets receiving chronic medication require a check-up every 3 months, although the exact interval may be shorter or longer depending on your pet’s specific condition and clinical needs.
Re-examination fee: £44.50
During these checks, the vet will review your pet’s progress, perform any necessary examinations or tests, and ensure their treatment remains effective and appropriate.
You are welcome to ask for the current price of any medication at any time.
Written Prescription Fees
We charge a fee of £20 per item.
This charge is non-refundable, as it covers:
The veterinary surgeon’s professional time
Clinical assessment and legal responsibilities
Administrative work involved in producing a valid, legally compliant prescription document
Please note that a separate fee applies for each medication that requires its own prescription.
Before Requesting a Written Prescription – Please Check
To avoid delays or additional costs, we strongly advise checking the following before submitting your prescription request:
Availability - Ensure that your chosen supplier currently has the medication in stock.
Accepted Format - Confirm that the supplier can accept the prescription format we issue (some online pharmacies have specific requirements).
Once a prescription has been issued, we cannot cancel it or refund the fee, even if:
The medication later becomes unavailable from your chosen supplier, or
You decide not to use the prescription
If you have any questions about written prescriptions, medication prices, or repeat checks, please feel free to contact our team by phone or through PetsApp - we are always happy to help.
