Our story began in the 1980s, when George MacRitchie started consulting from his home in Mount Vernon. His caring, personal approach soon became well known among pet owners in Mount Vernon and the surrounding areas, leading to the opening of Beechwood Veterinary Centre— and later, in the early 2000s, Low Waters Veterinary Centre, allowing us to welcome even more clients and their beloved pets.

When George retired, he wanted the practice to remain independent and true to its roots, rather than become part of a corporate chain. Two long-standing team members and their partners stepped forward to carry on his vision. Together, they founded Real Vets, a name created from the initials of the four original owners — a personal symbol of partnership, trust, and community spirit that continues to define us today.

Two of the founding partners have since retired and are dearly missed. Russel and Lee, the remaining husband-and-wife team, continue to live locally and remain hands-on in owning and managing the practice. They are deeply involved in the day-to-day running of both Beechwood and Low Waters Veterinary Centres, ensuring that our founding values of care, independence, and quality remain at the heart of everything we do.
