Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to our FAQs page! Below you'll find answers to some of the most common questions we receive. If you don’t see your question here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch — we’re always happy to help.

General Information

  • We primarily care for dogs, cats, and small furries such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, and ferrets. If you're unsure whether we can treat your pet, just give us a call!

  • Registering your pet with us is quick and easy! Simply fill out our online registration form, and a member of our friendly team will be in touch to welcome you and confirm the next steps. We look forward to meeting you and your pet soon!

  • Appointments only

To make sure every pet gets the time and attention they deserve, we kindly ask that all visits are booked in advance. Unfortunately, we’re not able to accept walk-ins.

    Saturdays - emergencies only

On Saturdays our team is here for urgent and emergency cases only. Routine appointments are available during the week.

If you’d like to arrange a visit just give us a call - we’ll be happy to find a time that works for you and your pet. You can also book online, via PetsApp.

  • If your pet requires emergency medical attention during practice opening hours please call one of our surgeries and we will help you.

If you find yourself in an emergency situation outwith these times please contact our partners Vets Now or Emergency Vets Glasgow. They are the pet equivalent to A&E and offer emergency care when we are closed.

  • We’re proud to be an independently owned, family-run veterinary practice, based right here in the local community.

Unlike many corporate-owned vet groups, our surgery is locally owned and operated by a small team who truly care about the pets – and people – we serve. Being independent means we have the freedom to make decisions that are best for your pet’s health and wellbeing, not shareholders.

We're part of the community, and many of our clients have been with us for years – some across generations of pets! When you visit us, you’ll see familiar faces who know you and your pet by name.

  • We’re proud to to say that both of our practices are accredited to give our clients peace of mind and reassurance in the quality of care that we provide.

The Practice Standards Scheme (PSS) is a voluntary accreditation scheme. To become accredited, practices volunteer for rigorous assessment every four years and will have met a range of minimum standards including hygiene, 24-hour emergency cover, staff training, certain types of equipment and cost estimation procedures.

  • We know visiting a new vet can be a little daunting — for both you and your pet! Here’s a quick guide to help you feel prepared and welcome when you come to see us for the first time.

We can’t wait to meet you and your pets!

  • We understand how important continuity of care is for you and your pet, and we will always do our best to book you in with your preferred vet whenever possible.

As a a family-friendly clinic, many of our veterinary surgeons work part-time, which can make scheduling more limited.

In the event of an emergency, your pet’s health and safety will always come first, so you may need to see whichever vet is immediately available. If your preferred vet is not available, rest assured that our whole team works closely together, with detailed medical notes and handovers, to ensure your pet receives the highest standard of care at every visit.

  • We kindly ask that you give us sufficient notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your pet’s appointment. When cancellations are made without enough notice, it prevents us from offering that time to another pet in need.

    • Missed or late-cancelled standard appointments will incur a £20 fee.

    • Missed surgical appointments without the required notice will result in a £50 charge, in addition to the £50 deposit already paid.

For full details, please see our Appointment Cancellation Policy.

  • At this time, we are unable to offer home visits. We encourage you to contact us if you're concerned about transporting your pet, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs within the clinic.

Fees & Payments

  • Costs vary depending on the service or treatment required. We’ll always give you an estimate before proceeding with any non-routine treatment. If you’d like a price list for common services, feel free to ask or check our price list.

  • Yes, we’re happy to work with all major pet insurance providers. We can also assist with completing claim forms. Please bring your policy details with you to your appointment.

  • We are happy to support you with your pet insurance claims.

Direct insurance claims are discretionary and depend on many factors, including your provider and policy.

Please note that a fee may apply for processing insurance paperwork or submitting claims.

If a direct claim isn’t available, you will need to pay for treatment at the time and claim the costs back yourself using the invoice we provide.

If you have any questions about insurance or the claims process, please don’t hesitate to ask our team.

  • For certain procedures or in unexpected situations, we may be able to offer payment options. Please speak to us in advance — we’ll do our best to help where we can.

  • An estimate is our best guess of the likely cost of your pet’s treatment, based on what we know at the time. It’s important to remember that an estimate is not a guarantee — the final cost may be more (or sometimes less). This can happen because:

    • The time a procedure takes can vary

    • Some treatments are more complicated than they first appear

    • Extra tests, medications, or care may be needed once we get started

We’ll keep you updated if it looks like costs are likely to change significantly, and we’ll talk through your options with you. If you have a budget in mind, please let us know and we’ll do our very best to work within it while still giving your pet the care they need.

  • We understand that veterinary care can feel costly, especially when unexpected health issues arise. However, there are several important reasons behind the cost of vet treatment:

    • No NHS for Pets
Unlike human healthcare, veterinary services are not funded by the government. All costs—from staff wages to medications and equipment—are covered by the practice.

    • Highly Trained Professionals
Vets undergo many years of university training and continuous professional development to provide the best possible care for your pets. Our team also includes qualified nurses and support staff, all dedicated to animal health and welfare.

    • Advanced Equipment and Facilities
Modern veterinary practices often invest in the same high-tech diagnostic equipment found in human hospitals—such as X-rays, ultrasound, blood testing, and surgical tools—to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.

    • Comprehensive, Individualised Care
Every consultation, test, and treatment is tailored to your pet’s individual needs. Behind every appointment is a team working hard to ensure your pet receives the best possible care.

    • Medication and Supplies
The cost of medications, surgical supplies, and lab tests can be high—especially when sourced from specialist veterinary suppliers. These are all factored into the cost of treatment.

    • Subject to VAT
All veterinary services and products are subject to 20% VAT as required by UK law. Unfortunately, unlike human healthcare, we cannot claim this back or exempt it—even for essential or life-saving care.

We always strive to offer fair and transparent pricing, and we’re happy to provide estimates and discuss treatment options. We also strongly recommend pet insurance, which can significantly reduce the financial burden of unexpected veterinary bills.

If you ever have concerns about costs or payment, please don’t hesitate to speak to a member of our team—we’re here to help.
