Preparing a Safe Space

  • Quiet, secure room away from windows

  • Escape-proof setup (secure doors, hutches, windows)

  • Covered den, tunnel, or hide box

Comfort Items

  • Extra bedding or hay for burrowing

  • Familiar toys and used bedding for scent

  • Cardboard boxes with two exits (rabbits & guinea pigs)

Reducing Noise & Light

  • Close curtains/blinds

  • Low-level TV or radio for background noise

  • Move hutches indoors or cover outdoor enclosures with heavy blankets (ventilated)

Food & Water

  • Constant access to fresh food and water

  • Scatter feeding or chew toys for distraction

Health & Safety

  • Microchip details up to date

  • Limit unnecessary movement/transport

  • Ask your vet about calming supplements or pheromone sprays
